So, there has been a wave of new shows in 2017... here are ten new shows that I am watching or I've watched recently. In no particular order.
Young Sheldon

CBS. Ongoing. Returns Nov 2
I watched the premiere episode last night and it was fantastic! I liked it far more than I thought I was going to. It's definitely got a different style than The Big Bang Theory... it's not filmed with a studio audience, but I kinda like that! I hope this show lasts longer than most novelty spinoffs.
Synopsis:
t's 1989 and 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper has skipped four grades to start high school along with his less-intellectual older brother. As he struggles to be understood by his family, classmates and neighbors, his mother arms him with the best tool she can come up with: reminding bullies his dad is the football coach and his brother is on the team. His twin sister doesn't share his exceptional mind, but she has a much clearer vision of what life has in store for the young genius. Jim Parsons, who plays the adult version of Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory," narrates.
Blue Exorcist
season 2

Aniplex. Season 2 complete. Has not been cancelled or renewed for season 3.
So, it's not REEALLYY a new show, but since there was like, an 8-year hiatus between the first season and this one, I'm counting it! If you've ever been curious about anime, season one is a pretty good beginners anime! I highly recommend!
Synopsis:
The ExWire of True Cross Academy are beset with shock and fear in the aftermath of discovering that one of their own classmates, Rin Okumura, is the son of Satan. But for the moment, they have more pressing concerns than that of Rin's parentage: the left eye of the Impure King, a powerful demon, has been stolen from the academy's Deep Keep. After an attempt is made to steal the right eye in Kyoto as well, Rin and the other ExWires are sent to investigate the mystery behind the Impure King and the ultimate goal of the thief.
While this mission has them cooperating for the time being, Rin has never felt more distant from his fellow exorcists. In his attempt to reconcile with them, he undergoes specialized training to control his dark power. However, when the right eye is stolen not long after their arrival, the unthinkable threat of a traitor amongst them leaves them in need of all the power they can get.

I just watched the first episode about an hour ago and it was pretty good! I have high hopes for it!

The President Show

This show has been giving me life this year. Sometimes, you just need to laugh.
Synopsis:
The losers dominating late-night are in for a rude awakening when the smartest, handsomest, most winning-est president of all time enters the fray to address the nation. The President Show brings television back to the people - by putting a plutocratic billionaire behind the desk.
Since being inaugurated in January 2017, President Donald Trump has been highly critical of the media and what he refers to as "fake news." In this late-night series, a fictional version of the president decides to bypass the mainstream media and address Americans himself by hosting this weekly show directly from the Oval Office. "The President Show" has all of the segments of a traditional late-night talk show -- desk segments, field pieces and guest interviews -- but they come from President Trump's unique viewpoint. Vice President Mike Pence (portrayed by actor Peter Grosz) serves as the president's sidekick. Comedian Anthony Atamanuik, who created the show, stars as President Trump.
The Bold Type

The season is over, unfortunately, and it hasn't been renewed yet. I really, really hope it gets a second season!
Putting together a magazine is not an easy task, requiring a lot of teamwork to finish the job and get the publication on newsstand shelves. That's why the staffers responsible for producing global women's magazine Scarlet lean on one another as they try to find their own voices. While working together to publish each issue of the periodical, they struggle to find their identities, manage friendships and find love. The drama series is inspired by the life of longtime magazine editor and executive Joanna Coles, who serves as an executive producer.
I Hart Food

Youtuber Hannah Hart (My Drunk Kitchen) has a new show on Food Network and it's fantastic! I've been watching her on youtube for YEARS and I love that she's still authentic in this show... still funny and sweet and full of puns!
After amassing a large online following via her "My Drunk Kitchen" web series, Hannah Hart brings her passion for food and sharp sense of humor to cable TV. Across six episodes, Hannah allows her appetite to guide her on a flavor-filled journey to some favorite regional food spots in the U.S. She learns during a visit to Portland, Maine, for instance, the many ways in which New England loves lobster, and in Santa Fe, N.M., that every dish seems to have a fiery fixation with red or green chilies. The food scenes in Asheville, N.C.; Eugene, Ore.; Missoula, Mont.; and Minneapolis are visited as well.
Raven's Home
Status:
Disney. Ongoing. Fridays 8PM
Raven's Home is a sequel to That's So Raven... with an older Raven and Chelsea and their kids. It's been pretty good so far. It doesn't really have the same... style that That's So Raven had, it's got the style I've noticed most Disney shows these days have, odd but not bad. But it's pretty good so far. I'm watching it as a That's So Raven fan, but it would be perfect to watch with your kids. It's not unwatchable for adults.
Now a divorced mother of two, Raven Baxter still catches glimpses of the future. She uses her power to help her be a better mother, a successful fashion designer and a good friend. She's not the only member of her family who can see the future, though. Her son Booker has inherited the ability from her, using it to help him make sense of middle school and his new family life. Their visions sometimes collide, but they always figure things out together. Also living in the Baxter house are Booker's no-nonsense twin sister Nia and free-spirited Chelsea, Raven's childhood best friend, who is the divorced mother of Levi, who is savvy and wise beyond his years. Raven and Chelsea work together to help raise their children.
Ducktales

Another show that's only a couple episodes in, but oh, boy it's good! David Tennant is such an excellent voice actor for Scrooge McDuck! And, unlike the original series, and most cartoons of the 90s,
Scrooge McDuck is back in this reboot of the late-'80s animated series. He gains guardianship of grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie when Donald Duck reluctantly takes them to McDuck Manor, the wonder of which enthralls the mischievous triplets. While living with their trillionaire relative, the boys learn long-held family secrets and unleash symbolic artifacts from Scrooge's past. The threesome's antics send the family on a number of adventures, which include Webby Vanderquack, the granddaughter of Scrooge's housekeeper, Mrs. Beakley. The show's animation style is inspired by the classic comic designs of animator Carl Barks.
Midnight Texas
Status:
NBC. Season 1 complete. Has not been renewed or canceled for season 2.
I've only watched the first couple episodes so far and while I don't think it's terrible, it's also got some major flaws. It's gone a little too quickly, IMO. What I've seen so far has been missing suspense; everything just sort of happens right away instead of the story being fleshed out and giving us time to feel something for the characters. I hope it slows down as the season goes on.
Based on Charlaine Harris' book series by the same name, "Midnight, Texas" follows the lives of the inhabitants of a small town where the concept of normal is relative. A haven for vampires, witches, psychics, hit men and others with extraordinary backgrounds, Midnight gives outsiders a place to belong. The town members form a strong and unlikely family as they work together to fend off the pressures of unruly biker gangs, questioning police officers and shades of their own dangerous pasts.
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

Netflix. Renewed. Season 2 starts in 2018
I haven't finished the season yet. I was watching it through my sister's free Netflix month, but once it expired I had no access to Netflix. But I finish it eventually. From what I remember, I did enjoy it.
This series follows the tragic tale of three orphans -- Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire -- who are investigating their parents' mysterious death. The siblings are saddled with an evil guardian named Count Olaf (portrayed by award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris), who will do whatever it takes to get his hands on the Baudelaire's inheritance. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling devious plans and disguises. The series is based on the best-selling series of books by Lemony Snickey (aka Daniel Handler).
*Other than the first two - which actually are my top favs - these are in no particular order. I typed them as I thought of them. Not all of these are playing right now, some are on break, but all are on-going!*

1.) Doctor Who... yes, no surprise to most people, my favorite show over the last five years or so has been Doctor Who! It doesn't always have the best effects or the best writing, but it is such a thrilling and poignant show. The humanity expressed in a show where the main character is an alien is just astounding. I love it... I love the messages in it and what it teaches. I love the relationships and The Doctor's constant struggle to keep himself in line, to fight off the darkness in his heart and fight for life and freedom... and the universe. I absolutely adore The Doctor. I wish The Doctor was real just so I could give him a big hug! ...which, should I start saying "her"? I am so fucking excited for the upcoming female Doctor! Jodie Wittaker has been cast as the next Doctor and I'm so looking forward to what she does with the role and where the show goes from here. As much as I love this show, it has grown a bit stale and repetitive... this is just the shakeup it needs! I can't wait! 😆
2.) Sense8... this has really become one of my favorites over the last couple years. The diversity expressed in this show, the show's ability to represent and seamlessly host such a diverse band of characters and settings is just awe-inspiring! IMO, this is a show other show writers should be using as an example of amazing show production. It's sooo good and I HIGHLY recommend!
3.) Teen Wolf.. it's been on a bit of a rollercoaster... sometimes I'm not a big fan of the direction, sometimes I am, but it always entertains and I'm so sad to see it ending.
4.) Game of Thrones... I actually haven't watched this last season yet. I plan to SOON, but I've held off watching any new episodes because this is one show I prefer to bingewatch!
5.) Shadowhunters... I am a big fan of Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter Universe of books and while I was initially hesitant about this show (it had a rocky start) I've actually come to really love it and I'm looking forward to season three!
6.) Jessica Jones... JJ is my favorite among the Marvel Netflix shows! It was exciting and badass and I was really impressed with Krysten Ritter in the role. I think she's done amazingly well! She's surpassed my expectations for her based on other roles I've seen her in.
7.) DareDevil... DD is my second favorite Marvel Netflix show. I enjoyed season two a bit more. The introduction of The Punisher really amped up my enjoyment and it has me looking forward to the Punisher's solo series that's coming soon!
8.) Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D... I'm a couple seasons behind, but I had to include it! I love this show! I love the Marvel Cinematic Universe and having this sideshow to sort of weave through the movies adds a lot of depth to the universe!
9.) Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt... I haven't seen the recent season for this one either, but it deserves to be on this list! It's hilarious!
10.) The Mindy Project... one of my favorite comedies! It introduced me to Mindy Kaling... who is awesome! I've read all of her books and I just love her brand of comedy. I hate that this next season is the last.
11.) Orange is the New Black... bit behind on this, but it also deserves to be on this list. I remember watching that first season, I was HOOKED almost immediately!
12.) Scorpion... I feel like this show was a really good show to fill the whole Num3ers left. It's funny, smart, it's got some romance, and the cases are almost always entertaining to watch! Not to mention the relationships, both romantic and friendly that makes the show what it is. This is one of the shows I'm very much looking forward to returning.
13.) Lucifer... I'm surprised by how much I like this considering I've had some problems with it production-wise. But I've got high hopes for it and it is a really entertaining show that always has me waiting to see what's going to happen next! It's returning soon too!
14.) Once Upon a Time... cheesy and horrible effects, but so good, so much fun to watch!
15.) Supergirl.. same thing! Cheesy and has some really subpar effects at times, but I always enjoy myself when I watch it. I've got some catching up to do soon. I haven't seen the second half of the recent season.
16.) Supernatural... this show is a journey! Yes, it's repetitive, yes, I've forgotten most of what's happened in previous seasons, but I can't stop watching, I can't stop rooting for Sam and Dean and Cas... and even Crowley at times. The first few seasons were definitely the best story-wise and production-wise, but I still love the show!
17.) Jane The Virgin... another I'm behind on, but I couldn't not include it. It's so good. It's got all those elements of a really good soap opera, but it doesn't take itself too seriously. In fact, it makes fun of itself, it sort of parodies soap operas and telenuovos and it's great!
18.) Good Witch... as a huge fan of the movies, I was delighted to hear that this was getting a tv series... and I wasn't disappointed! It's got all the charm, the romance, and feel-good of the movies!
19.) iZombie... SO GOOD! So, So, GOOD! If you need a good buddy-comedy combined with crime drama combined with paranormal story, this show is for you! It's all that and more! iZombie is one show I think is horribly underrated!
20.) The Good Place... I went back and forth adding this because it's only got one season so far, but that season was excellent and I think it's only going to get better!
Fanfic: I've read Geek Love by Forestrosesprite (LOVED IT!) but I found out that it has a sequel! I've already started on it, I'm a little over halfway through, so I'll be finishing that up tonight.
Movie: I got about halfway through Bridget Jones' Baby before I had to go take care of some things, but I hope to watch the rest of it tonight before bed so that I can move on to another movie this week.
TV: I finished up season three of Sleepy Hollow! I didn't find time to watch season four, so I've picked it for my tv watch this week.
Anime: I completed Barakamon! It was fantastic! If I write a review, it'll be included in my September wrapup later this month, but I did give it a 9 star (or 4.5 star for my blog) rating!

Sleepy Hollow
It's time to stop putting it off and watch the last four episodes of season 3 and the whole of season 4.

Tokyo Ghoul
